This is our story of trying to round out our 10 months old flat head. He has mild brachycephaly\plagiocephaly and will wear a helmet. We hope to share the information and research that we find along the way and continue to learn as we go. Hopefully we can be a source of comfort to you in your own journey as we seek our own comfort in knowing that we're doing what's best for our son.

Welcome

Hi there.

I'm glad you're here.  I do hope that what you will find on this blog will serve as some comfort to you as you decide whether or not your child needs a helmet or not.  We've done lots of research and I thought this would be the best way to compile it.  We've been concerned with our son's head since he was about 3 months old.  It was very coned.  The cone shape went down but the flatness never went away.  His pediatrician kept telling us that it would round out on its own after he started rolling over, sitting, crawling, etc.  He's 10 months old now.  He's doing all of the above, but his head is not rounding out.  We have chosen to meet with a Pediatric Plastic Surgeon at Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital and then meet with an Orthotist.  This is our journey of fixing our son's flat head.

I pray that something we write or document will help you make your decision.

If nothing else, I hope I inform you with what to expect if you were to get a helmet for your child.

I am sorry that you are having to face this decision.  I know it's hard.  I know it's costly.  But he'll have this head his whole life.  Would you rather fix it now, or have some kid in school make fun of him down the road?  I'd rather fix it now.  Your child is your own decision, but our choice was to fix Easton's now.

If I can be of any help or comfort for you during this time, please leave a comment with your email and I'll do my best to answer or help in any way I can.

Thank you for reading,
Annie
